My kid doesn’t eat meat, My child can smell any vitamins or medicine I put in their smoothies…or food. This was literally the distress I was under when my daughter who I described as an extremely picky eater basically ate 2-3 major food groups. This issue caused me so much distress. I would wonder if she was deficient in something…which she obviously had to be, you can’t be getting all your vitamins from pizza and mac and cheese.
I scoured the internet, the library, blogs, youtube, everywhere in order to find other moms with answers to my dilemma. I found many amazing accounts online but my actual questions weren’t answered. I bought countless liquid vitamins and gummy vitamins. My medicine cabinet was a vitamin graveyard of all the countless products I tried and tested myself.
It was like my daughter had a spider sense and could sense when I put anything in her food or drinks. I would be overcome with anxiety even before trying anything because I already knew she would realize something, and as I feared she usually with a 100% probability could smell or sense something new in her food.
I happily can share some great insights into this dilemma with my fellow mom’s to picky eaters and diagnosed AFRID. One of the biggest nutrients many picky eaters suffer from is Iron deficiency. Iron supplements are probably some of the most awful tasting and smelling, and if you’ve ever had to give your child an iron supplement you understand completely what I’m saying. There is no hiding this supplement. My daughter would intermittently eat meat. She would go on 6 month strikes and would refuse to eat any meat. I went on a mission, Again to find an iron supplement and again FAIL after FAIL.
GOOD NEWS! After all my hard work I stumbled on an iron supplement valled “You and Yours” https://amzn.to/48evDh0 they claimed it was odorless and tasteless, and it was available on Amazon prime so I went for it. I cannot emphasize this was 100000% true. The only caveat is it is a red colored powder that can change the color of your food. If your child won’t eat something based on color this may be an issue. I however have been able to hide it in pizza sauce, peanut butter, and other mom’s I know have told me pear puree. I tried this supplement for a month and had my daughters blood work done and she was no longer iron deficient. Not even by a little. I did share this supplement with a large Instagram creator who’s daughter had AFRID and her posts were eerily similar to my daughters situation. She also tried it and told me her iron deficient daughter who had been on prescription iron supplements was finally for the first time ever not iron deficient. I’m sharing this because I would have thought this information would be more readily available to us mom’s but it really wasn’t.
Then the big one “multivitamins” again nothing tasteless odorless colorless… until I discovered a new vitamin company called ella olla vitamins I will add this vitamin is on the pricy side. You and Yours Tasteless Multi Vitamins has newly released a tasteless vitamin I cannot attest to it I haven’t tried it yet, but if it’s anything like their iron supplement it’s probably incredible. However if you’re really in a pinch and cannot get your child to take a vitamin supplement this one is it. I have been lucky that my daughter has graduated to Gummies Smarty Pants Kids Multivitamins the taste is great and they have omega which as a physician I look for in my children’s supplements.
